A story in your head isn’t a story. It’s just a daydream until you actually write it down. So write it down. -Andy Weir
Why do I want to write
I have a lot of ideas in a day. Most are crap. Others lead me down multi-day rabbit holes that end with me creating something valueable or learning something new. Most of the time, I have an idea, make a note about it, then continue with my day never to return to the note again. So I want to change that just a little. I want to have an outlet for more complete thoughts, project writeups, and knowledge transfers that others can maybe learn something.
I also learn when I write! It isn’t the same learning that happens when thinking through a problem or reading about new things, but more of a completeness check on what I am writing about. As I write I notice things that I don’t quite understand or don’t remember. I then go back (sometimes to the aformentioned rabbit hole) and fill in that knowledge.
How often will I write
When I end up doing it. I want to get better at writing in addition to my normal learning and work, but those things have priority. I do have a goal to write a multi-part series this year, and I hope I achieve that goal. Other writing will have no schedule but instead come naturally like this one. Once I start making a conscience point to write my ideas, more writing will come.
What am I going to write about
I imagine it will be about things that I am tinkering with at the time. As I mentioned before, I do have a series planned about a topic that I wanted to go more in depth with, I hope to develop a cadence with creating these “knowledge transfers” as I jump from topic to topic in my normal evening roamings of the internet and books.
I don’t expect many people to read my normal ramblings such as this one, but I hope that one of my posts can help someone, somewhere with something.
